Israel leaves, tunnels repaired.

Hours after the final Israeli troops leave the area, the tunnels that connect Gaza to Egypt are repaired and back in service. I found this somewhat surprising initially, as a large focus during the Israeli aerial bombardment was the destruction of the tunnel network that is used to transport goods into Gaza from Egypt. The tunnel networks are extremely elaborate and have been likened to the tunnel system in Vietnam that were used during the war.

I had to revisit my opinions a bit, initially I couldn’t fathom the level of stupidity required from someone to want to repair these tunnels and risk more conflict. I visited a few different sources of news and read up on a few things as I generally like to learn both sides of a story before I go spouting off about my opinions. I couldn’t believe the Palestinians would wish to provoke Israel so fast after the withdrawal of the troops that devastated Gaza mere days ago. Upon reading more on the situation I realized these tunnels are not only used for smuggling of weapons for Hamas, they are also used to bring in basic goods, food, medical supplies and other much needed materials that Israel is currently preventing from coming in through normal channels. These people are in such desperate need of these supplies, they are willing to defy Israel or anyone else and repair the tunnels knowing good and well that it may spark further attacks.

I do not condone the acts of Hamas or any other terrorist organization, I wish the Palestinian people would not tolerate their presence in the region. In this age of possibilities, hopes and dreams anything really is possible. It is time now for all good people to stop making excuses, to stop feeling sorry for themselves or blaming others and realize they alone control their destiny. They must make a firm stand against evil and tyranny together. If enough good people want to better their lives, change their situation and provide a better world for their children and grand children to live it, it is possible now.

I look around here every day, realizing how much I have taken for granted the quality of life many of us here in America have. Granted we are struggling and have much work ahead of us, but this is the land of opportunity and I think the American people are realizing this once again. I hope its contagious and that other good people in the world have the desire to chart their own path to success, whether it be the in the middle east or anywhere in the world. I hate to sound cliche, but can’t we all just get along?
