What to do with Hamas?

In light of the recent week’s events in Gaza, I have been researching the history of Hamas and that of the Palestinians. Hamas is, to put it plainly, a terrorist organization which violently seized control of Gaza in 2007. With 1.4 million people suffering within the walls of Gaza, I can’t help to think more could be done to free this war torn area from the heartless rule of Hamas, which is known to use human shields during the carrying out of its terrorist activities.

It is obvious that any blockades and restrictions put in place by Israel are only hurting the Palestinians and not Hamas itself, which seems quite capable in obtaining weaponry from terror supporting countries such as Iran. Whatever the cause, however you say or write it terrorism is evil and needs to stop. Rationalizing killing innocent civilians for a “holy cause” is wrong, it goes against the fundamental values of every intelligent, civilized person in the world and only the radical members of any given religion (otherwise known as crazy) can even find a way to attempt to condone this type of activity. Whether one practices Animism, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism or any other religion, the basic instinct of what is right and wrong should still be there. If an individual does not have the ability to distinguish from right and wrong, in most societies that is considered a mental handicap and is treated as such.

I personally am a Christian and I have very good friends who practice Atheism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam, why is it we can all get together and get along without wanting to kill each other? Well… It’s because we aren’t crazy, we know what is right and what is wrong and we have respect for each other. I will never understand nor respect anyone that thinks they can use their religion, or that of anyone else as an excuse to desire to harm, injure or destroy a person or society.

Hamas and terrorist organizations in general, choose to rule utilizing fear and hatred to control the people under its hand. It’s time for all good people in the world to stop tolerating tyranny and stand up for themselves. The voices of many, the desires of all, can and will always prevail over the cynical wants or demands of a few. I personally think it would be great to see a unification of the people of Gaza and the West Bank under a common government that is willing to come to an understanding with Israel and find a peaceful way to co-exist in the region. Hamas is not ever going to do that, so they need to go away.

I understand that thousands of years of disputes, wars and hatred plague the area, but those things can be overcome if there are enough people who want it. Imagine a life in the Middle East where everyone was civil, where all children could attend school, where people could go to work daily without fear of death or destruction. Imagine a world where no one wished ill will upon someone because of their race, religion or heritage. I know we can all imaging that, well it is time to stop imagining and start doing it. I can walk down the street in my home town and see just that, people from all walks of life, all religions and faiths getting along, working together and making this a better place to live every day. It is possible, there just need to be enough people who want it.
